I don't know the standard settings for the carb as I have yet to get a manual, however I bought a Bayou 250 in the last few days and it runs exactly as you say. Last night I tried different settings on the air screw which has solved the problem. Mine was originally set at 1/2 turn out, I found that 1 1/2 turns out totally solved my problems.
